Rock wool is a spun mineral fibre core. Unlike the organic foam cores it is non-combustible, so it is the panel to specify when fire performance governs the design rather than thermal performance alone. It also offers better acoustic attenuation than foam cores.

Typically specified for fire-rated compartment walls, boiler and plant rooms, escape corridors, and buildings where an insurer or code requires a mineral core.
